A 20-year-old woman, Jamila Ishiaku, has been arrested for allegedly pouring hot water on her pregnant sister-in-law during labour.
The suspect claimed she acted out of anger following an argument.
Our correspondent learned that the incident occurred on January 27 in Dubeli, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The victim’s husband, Dahiru Gambo, received a distress call while at his shop informing him that his wife had been scalded with boiling water.
He rushed to the police station to ensure the arrest of the suspect, who is a relative by marriage.
Gambo expressed his disappointment that even the suspect’s husband, a relative of his, had shown no compassion.
“Seeing my wife in pain made me cry too. She was suffering immensely,” he said.
Since the incident, the victim’s condition has remained critical, and she has given birth while still reeling from the trauma.
Gambo mentioned that his wife has been unable to lie down in bed for five days, serving as a constant reminder of the brutality she faced.
He vowed to seek justice for his wife, stating, “I will not rest until justice is served for my wife.”
The victim’s sister, Nefisat Dahiru, also called for justice in this case.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the suspect’s arrest and assured that she would face the full consequences of the law.
