The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, Veronica Ndanusa, has asserted that Nigeria’s economy cannot attain its full potential without the active involvement of women.
Speaking at the Women-Led Businesses ‘Her Showcase’ event, organised by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Abuja on Tuesday, Ndanusa underscored the need to empower women in trade.
“You cannot accelerate progress if women are not prepared, and you cannot drive the economy to its peak if women are not included,” she stated, addressing participants on the theme “Trading Beyond Borders.”
Ndanusa praised NEPC’s commitment to training women entrepreneurs, noting that over 50 women from her association had benefited from the programme, acquiring valuable skills.
She also commended the improved product quality and packaging standards displayed by the women at the exhibition, describing it as a significant leap forward.
“What stands out most for me today is the packaging. We have moved beyond the era of substandard presentation to world-class standards that can compete globally,” she remarked.
She further revealed that the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex is working closely with NEPC to sponsor more women entrepreneurs, offering them platforms to showcase their products to international markets.
Ndanusa also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to increasing women’s representation in governance, applauding his appointments of women to leadership positions and the introduction of policies aimed at empowering them.
The ‘Her Showcase’ event serves as a vital platform to promote Nigerian women-led businesses, strengthening their participation in global trade and reinforcing their contributions to national economic growth.
