Chelsea Could Face Points Deduction Following 74 Rule Breaches
Chelsea face possible points deduction after charged with 74 rule breaches
The Football Association (FA) has charged Chelsea with 74 alleged breaches of regulations covering agents, intermediaries, and third-party investment in players during Roman Abramovich’s ownership of the club.
The charges relate to conduct between 2009 and 2022, with most of the cases linked to the 2010/11 to 2015/16 seasons. Chelsea have until 19 September 2025 to respond.
In a statement, the club said the alleged breaches were self-reported after the new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, identified incomplete financial reporting during its due diligence process in 2022.
Chelsea added that it had provided “unprecedented transparency” and full access to files and historical data to regulators.
The FA confirmed the charges were brought under its Football Agents Regulations, Regulations on Working with Intermediaries, and Third Party Investment in Players Regulations.
If found guilty, Chelsea could face sanctions including fines or a points deduction.
The club, however, stressed that the matters under investigation “took place over a decade ago.”
Meanwhile, the Blues return to Premier League action against Brentford on Saturday.
