CRISIS DEEPENS As PDP Plan To Move South- South Zonal Headquarters From Rivers To Akwa Ibom [DETAILS]

It was reported that an alleged plan to relocate the South- South zone secretariat in Rivers state could worsen the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that over the past few months, the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and the Party’ s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar have not been on friendly terms with one another.

As a result of the situation, those supporting Governor Wike have demanded that Iyorchia Ayu step down from his position as National Chairman of the party.

However, according to the Daily Sun, governor Wike’ s camp has kicked against the move as part of a plan to reduce the influence that Wike has in the zone.

Meanwhile, the zonal organizing secretary, Ekom Akonjom, issued a statement in which he expressed concern about the possibility of holding the meeting in another location instead of Rivers State.

Akonjom claimed it will result in a violation of the PDP constitution would occur if any zonal meeting were to take place away from the respective zonal offices.

The statement reads, ” Worried by the unabating crises in the Party since the Presidential Primaries, and in appreciation of the need for unity and cohesion, particularly in the build- up to the 2023 General Elections, the Zonal Working Committee welcomes the idea of a National Zonal Consultative Tour.
