Customs gives the NDLEA a cannabis cache valued at millions of naira.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Niger-Kogi Command, has intercepted and handed over a significant haul of 283 wraps of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Minna, Niger State.

The intercepted cannabis, with a duty-paid value estimated at ₦5.6 million, marks another milestone in the Command’s efforts to tackle illicit drug trade.

Comptroller Pascal Chibuoke of the Niger-Kogi Command provided details on the bust, describing it as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal activities within the command’s jurisdiction.

“Our team’s resilience and dedication to protecting our borders from illicit trafficking have yielded significant results,” Chibuoke stated, adding that his team had also detained nine vehicles valued at over ₦170 million in the past four weeks.

The handover to the NDLEA underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s drug trafficking challenges.

The Niger State Commander of the NDLEA, Shehu Gwadabawa, received the cannabis on behalf of the agency.

Gwadabawa commended the Customs Command, saying, “Such teamwork between the NDLEA and Customs is essential to prevent these harmful substances from reaching our communities.”

Comptroller Chibuoke assured that officers demonstrating exceptional commitment to duty would be rewarded as part of the Command’s incentive plan, reinforcing the Customs Service’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders from drug-related activities.

The Niger-Kogi Command’s recent achievements reflect a strengthened resolve to curb smuggling and foster closer cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
