Datti vs. Soyinka: Shehu Sani Urges Datti Not To Accept The Debate Challenge Of Soyinka

The polity has somewhat been heated after the outcome of the presidential election, where Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared the president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission. It was after the presidential election that the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed, made a statement on Channels Television, which didn’t sit well with professor Wole Soyinka, who claimed that the comments of Datti were fascistic and also challenged the senator to a debate. Senator Shehu Sani does not share the idea of Datti holding a debate against Wole Soyinka.

The statement he released about this discourse read, “Datti should not debate with Soyinka. In Africa, it’s improper to debate with elders, no matter how unpalatable their words. Kongi is our national asset, even if his views differ from yours. But if Datti wants to debate with Lai, it’s ok; he’s employed and paid to talk and talk.
