Imo State’ s Governor Hope Uzodinma has explained why security operatives’ stormed Eke- Ututu Market in Orsu Local Government Area on Saturday.
It was earlier reported that Security personnel allegedly found components for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in some of the market’ s shops, so they raided and set those stores on fire.
Speaking about the situation on Wednesday Uzodinma informed newsmen who visited him at the Government House in Owerri Wednesday that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are being used as a weapon by bandits who operate in the area to fight security officers.
He claims that an explosion from the device killed a Major in the Nigerian Army who was on duty near Orsu Awo- Idemili last month.
He said, ” Last Saturday, a joint security force, which arrested a bandit, took him after his confession to guide them to where they operate from and manufacture the explosives.
” It turned out to be Eke- Ututu Market.
” They discovered four shops where fertilizers, ammonium sulfate, and electrical gadgets used in manufacturing explosives were packed. ”
According to Uzodinma, the Captain who supervised the operation and another officer are currently in serious condition at the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri.
The governor went on to say that the soldiers were successful in recovering all of the weapons and fertilizers that the bandits is using to produce the IEDs.
