Delta 2023: PDP, APC Trade Words As Omo-Agege Accuses Okowa Of funding VP Ambition with State Fund

Delta State Governorship Candidate of the All Progressive Congress ( APC) and the ruling party in the state, are trading hot words in counter-accusations.

Speaking in Asaba while flagging off his campaign on Thursday, the Deputy Senate President and gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Chief Ovie Omo-Agege described a vote for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate as a vote for incompetence, bad judgement and everything that went wrong in the past seven years.

He called on Deltans to reject attempts by the incumbent to impose a successor against the wishes of Deltans.

According to Omo- Agege, “The offer of PDP in the 2023 gubernatorial elections in the person of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori is a bad one for Delta State because it exemplifies incompetence, bad judgement and everything that went wrong in the past seven years.

The handpicked PDP candidate Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori is a mere clone of Okowa because, like his master, his middle name is incompetence. .

We must reject leaders who will not be independent of Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and the cabal that brought us to this sorry past. For Deltans to get out of these problems and return to a path of economic prosperity”.

He reiterated his displeasure over the affairs of the state saying that my aspiration is beyond the ordinary quest for power.

” It is a movement to liberate, rebuild and reinvigorate our state which ought to be a leading light in Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.

I am certainly concerned that our dear state has been left behind on key development indices despite the huge sums of money that flow into the State from the Federation Account and 13 per cent derivation along with internally generated revenue by way of the various taxes and rates that our hard-working people pay.

By the records of the Debt Management Office, Delta State also has the second-highest debt portfolio in the country. This is certainly unacceptable” he purported.

He then promised to arrest receding hope among Deltans and build a State where the people’s future is brighter than their past.

He also accused Governor Okowa of channelling state funds to his ambition to become Vice-President of Nigeria in 2023 by every means.

In its response, Delta State Government through the Commissioner of Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu debunked allegations that the state ranks second in debt profile in Nigeria.

He questioned the character of candidates of the APC gubernatorial candidate, stating that Omo-Agege has forgotten that we had to apologize for his poor behaviour at the floor of the Senate.

“The lies of 2015 would not work on Deltans. For Senator Omo-Agege to cast aspersion on an administration he should learn from is uncharitable” he declared.

He further rebuffed the alleged abandonment of communities in the riverine areas saying that the people in the creeks do not know what is called tarred roads till the administration of Okowa came in.

“What has he done for his people to make them vote for him? He should plead with him to consider him for a board. Omo-Agege would not score 25 per cent of votes in the Gubernatorial elections” he asserted.
