Delta APC Reacts to Arrest of Ex-Governor Okowa by EFCC

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed the arrest of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling it a significant move in the ongoing fight against corruption.

The arrest is seen as part of a broader effort by the current administration to hold public officials accountable for financial misconduct.

The EFCC detained Okowa, who served as Delta State governor from 2015 to 2023, over allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds during his tenure.

These charges reportedly involve state funds and questionable contracts awarded during his administration.

In a statement signed by State Publicity Secretary Valentine Onojeghuo, the Delta APC expressed support for the Federal Government’s actions and urged the EFCC to expand its investigations.

“We in the APC wholeheartedly welcome the news of the arrest of the former governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who presided over one of the worst cases of financial recklessness and mismanagement on a monumental scale during his eight-year administration,” Onojeghuo stated.

The APC accused Okowa of diverting state funds for personal use, including establishing a bank and funding a presidential bid.

They further alleged that he manipulated the political process by imposing a successor against the wishes of Delta citizens, saying, “The era of impunity is over. No one, regardless of their position or political affiliation, is above the law.”

Calling for unwavering efforts in the fight against corruption, the APC stated, “The arrest of former Governor Okowa should serve as a reminder that transparency must prevail, and public funds should benefit citizens rather than enrich individuals.”
