Delta community deserted, DHQ requests investigation as 15 soldiers’ bodies recovered

Punch reports that on Friday, residents of Okolaba in the Bomadi Local Government Area and Okuama in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State found themselves forced to leave their communities. Soldiers had taken over the neighborhood and were said to have set fire to some houses after killing sixteen soldiers, including senior officers. This led to the mass flight.

Channels Television claimed late on Saturday that soldiers from the Joint Task Force, under the command of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, had retrieved 15 military remains from the Okuama community. Several of the bodies that were found had horrifically been mutilated; others had had their stomachs torn apart and their internal parts gone.

At the NDDC jetty in the community, the bodies of the commanding officer and two Majors were seen floating by the river bank, with others scattered on land.

The entire communities in the Bomadi and Ughelli South local government areas were cordoned off by troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, overseeing the 63 brigade in Asaba.
