South Africa defender Karabo Dhlamini has stressed the importance of Banyana Banyana securing victory over Nigeria’s Super Falcons.
Desiree Ellis’ side will take on Nigeria in a play-in clash, with the winner advancing to the inter-confederation play-offs for another opportunity to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Banyana Banyana missed out on automatic qualification after suffering a 2-1 defeat to hosts Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the setback, Dhlamini believes the team must make the most of their second chance and fight for a place at the global showpiece.

“The goal is still the same,” Karabo Dhlamini told ESPN. “We’ll try our best to win the play-offs, because we still have a chance to qualify for the World Cup.
“Coming into the game, the team did very well, but that first goal just broke our momentum.
“We’re not feeling happy, we’re disappointed, but it’s not the end of the world. We’re going to lift our heads up and focus on the next goal.
“The focus is to score more goals and win the game.”
Thursday’s encounter will take place at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off scheduled for 9pm Nigerian time.
