Drama As 17-Year-Old Girl Stabs Her Aunt To Death For Telling Her To Take Her Medications

A 17-year-old girl in Akure, Ondo State, has been placed under protective custody at a police medical facility after stabbing her aunt to death. The police spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, revealed that the girl has psychiatric problems.

According to Punch, the police were informed about the aunt’s death on March 17, 2024, when her body was already in an advanced stage of decomposition. Upon examination, a mark of violence, indicating stabbing, was discovered on the body. A knife was also found at the scene of the crime. The initial investigation revealed that the 17-year-old niece had been living with her aunt since the age of six but suddenly disappeared from home. The smell emanating from the room attracted the attention of residents who then informed the deceased’s sister. Upon arrival, the sister peered through a window and discovered the lifeless body, prompting her to contact the police.

Following her arrest, the teenager was interrogated about the incident. She confessed to stabbing her aunt and locking her inside the house because the aunt incessantly disturbed her regarding medication usage. Family members stated that the girl had been under her late aunt’s care since the age of six but developed a mental illness in 2023. She was subsequently admitted to a psychiatric hospital in the state, where she received treatment and was discharged. The hospital confirmed the girl’s medical history to the police.

To ensure her safety, the teenager has been placed in protective custody at a police medical facility.
