DSS Arrests Man for Urging Military to Remove President Tinubu
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man in Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over posts that urged the military to overthrow the government.
The suspect, identified as Innocent Chukwuma, allegedly used his X (formerly Twitter) handle @TheAgroman to call for a coup.
What he posted online
Chukwuma’s posts were shared on his X account, where he wrote: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now.
“It will happen eventually. Nigerians, the military needs your support now! Only them can save this country.
“The bastard in Aso Rock has basically sold this country to the West, and they run our intelligence apparatus. Only the military can reset this country. Support them.”
Security sources say the DSS tracked the poster to Oyigbo and arrested him after verifying the account was active.
Investigators removed the suspect for questioning and seized devices linked to the posts.
Suspect cooperating with investigators
A source close to the probe said Chukwuma is cooperating with DSS investigators.
Officials are reportedly examining his online networks and any contacts who may have amplified the messages.
Authorities said the arrest aims to deter calls for unconstitutional change and to protect public order.
Legal and security implications
Calls for military intervention and suspension of the constitution are criminal in many jurisdictions.
Nigeria’s security agencies view such messages as threats to national stability and may press charges.
Analysts warn that rhetoric online can lead to real-world harm if not checked early.
Public reaction and next steps
The arrest has drawn varied reactions on social media, with many condemning the post and others raising free speech concerns.
The DSS will determine whether to charge the suspect and present evidence in court.
Officials say investigations will continue to identify any other persons involved.
