Election: Cleric Seeks Establishment Of Agency For Voter Education In Nigeria

By Franca Ofili

The General Evangelist, Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Prophet Hezekiah Oladeji has urged that the Federal Government to establish an agency specifically for voter education in the country.

Oladeji made the call at a newsconference in Abuja on Thursday on the church scheduled programme for Friday.

He said that the programme would be held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja with theme, “Praise the Lord for His mercy endureth forever”.

According to him, the agency will be used to educate Nigerians on how to conduct and achieve peaceful elections.

He said with voter education, Nigerians would not ”commercialise their votes during the 2023 General Elections and also would avoid mortgaging their future.

“Don’t allow politicians to use your life as sacrifice for the coming elections. Don’t sell your tomorrow for the coming elections because of money.

“Don’t allow anything whatsoever to mortgage your future. Don’t allow any candidate to buy you because the future you are looking at is very close to you,’’ he advised.

According to him, the people that ”sold their votes during the 2015 and 2019 elections did not do anything tangible with the money.

”My advice for all Christians, our forefathers prayed and God answered them.”

Oladeji called for prayers to achieve a better and peaceful Nigeria.

“So, let’s pray in our closets. If only we know this God, and He will answer us.

”Those of us who will vote, don’t do anything contrary to the will of God because you want to vote your choice.

“A lot of people want to revenge evil during elections by burning houses, and killing people.

”If you didn’t get it right in politics, go back to what you have been doing.

“To correct the mistakes, the government should establish an agency that will teach the electorate voter education,’’ he said

Oladeji said that Nigerians must look inward before voting for any candidate of their choice in the 2023 presidential elections.

Oladeji said: “Nigerians should look forward to a neutral and well qualified person during the elections.

“Free and fair elections play a critical role in political transitions by advancing democratization and encouraging political liberalization.

“They help to promote peaceful, democratic political transformation that lead to increased stability and prosperity.”

Oladeji advised that people should not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, they should pray and give petition, with thanksgiving to God.

The cleric, who expressed optimism that peace would return to the country, called on Nigerian leaders to exhibit more political will and determination in order to salvage the situation.

“There is a need for fervent prayers as it is the only way of addressing these challenges,” Oladeji urged. (NAN)
