Eric Chelle Confronts Striker Challenge Ahead of Nigeria vs Gabon as Akor Adams Worrying Record Surfaces
Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has the highest number of offside infringements in the Spanish Laliga this season.
Adams is expected to be part of a two-pronged strike partnership with Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s upcoming FIFA World Cup playoffs fixtures in the coming days.
Although he has just two goals and one assist in 10 Laliga games, he caught the eye during Nigeria’s World Cup Qualifiers games against Lesotho and Benin.
He looked really good with Osimhen in the final third, and even scored a beautiful goal against Lesotho. So, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, will likely give him a starting shirt.
However, the Franco-Malian might now have second thoughts about that, as Mucho Deporte reports that Adams has committed 16 offsides this season.
This number might not seem high, as Sevilla have played 12 games this season. But Adams has ten caps this season, six of which have been off the bench.
In comparison, Mbappe, who is the second player with most offsides (14), has started all 12 of Real Madrid’s Laliga games and has never played below 80 minutes this season.
Will This Affect Akor Adams’ Starting Shirt?
Akor Adams’ offside issues is something Eric Chelle definitely has to look at and talk to him about. It shows that there is a problem with the timing of his runs and perhaps, a lack of concentration.
Unlike the World Cup Qualifiers proper, there will be VAR, so there won’t be room for offside goals, as every situation will be thoroughly checked.
Nonetheless, it is unlikely that Adams will get dropped from the team, provided that he does will in training.
In the meantime, other attackers like Tolu Arokodare and Samuel Chukwueze will be hoping to get a look-in.
