EXCLUSIVE: Tinubu’s Rome Visit Sparks Outrage — Ex-SGF Calls It an Insult to Christianity and Blasts the Presidency!

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has once again voiced strong concerns regarding President Bola Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket with vice-presidential candidate Kashim Shettima.During an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, May 21, Lawal condemned Tinubu’s recent visit to Vatican City for Pope Leo’s inauguration, describing it as an insult to Christianity. However, he downplayed the significance of the visit, suggesting it was achievable through lobbying and connections within the Vatican.

Lawal emphasized that if Nigeria had a Christian vice president, the dynamics might have been different, implying that such arrangements are influenced by religious considerations. He stated, “Visiting the Pope is just a matter of lobbying and having friends in the Vatican. It’s not a major achievement, and can be arranged with the right influence.”

He further criticized the Muslim-Muslim ticket, asserting, “Tinubu’s visit to the Pope reinforces my belief that the Muslim-Muslim ticket is an insult to Christianity. If we had a Christian vice president, he would likely be the one to represent Nigeria in such matters. Instead, we see a Muslim leading a delegation of Catholics to the Vatican, which highlights the unfairness of this arrangement.”

Lawal has long been an outspoken critic of the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket prior to the 2023 elections, arguing that it was unjust to Nigeria’s Christian community.
