FG Committed to Strengthening School Safety Amid Kidnappings — Echono

Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, Arch. Sonny Echono, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to providing safer and more conducive learning environments for Nigerian students through continued backing of the Safe School Initiative.

Echono disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday while receiving leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, at his office.

The TETFund boss said government, in collaboration with security agencies, is focused on ensuring safe learning conditions.

“In line with Mr. President’s renewed hope agenda, Nigerian students are at the heart of all our efforts in the education sector. We are looking at ways to enhance learning outcomes, improve facilities, both physical and online, and encourage lecturers to give their best,” he said.

He also assured NANS that the administration is committed to equipping students to be globally competitive, enabling them not just to seek jobs but to create them.

“Mr. President is grateful for the massive support from youths and will continue implementing programs that empower them and prepare them for leadership,” Echono added.

Earlier, NANS leaders commended TETFund for its role in transforming infrastructure across tertiary institutions, noting that some institutions would have struggled to survive without the agency’s support.

NANS Secretary-General, Comrade Anzaku Shedrack, also passed a vote of confidence on Echono’s leadership.

The students’ visit was timed ahead of NANS’ 45th anniversary, slated for December 4–7, 2025, during which President Bola Tinubu and Echono will be honored as Grand Commander and Patron of Nigerian Students, respectively.
