Finidi George’s Enyimba Get Tough CAF Champions League Draw Against African Powerhouses

Former Nigeria Premier Football League champions Rivers United have been drawn in Group A of the CAF Champions League, alongside RS Berkane, Pyramids and Power Dynamos.

Last week, former Super Eagles coach Finidi George, led Rivers United to become the first Nigerian club in eight years, to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Champions League, after defeating Black Bulls of Mozambique 3-2 on aggregate.

The draws for the competition group stages took place on Monday in Johannesburg, and Rivers United got a tough draw.

The former NPFL champions were drawn in Group A. They will have to face Pyramids (Egypt), RS Berkane (Morocco), and Power Dynamos (Zambia).

Pyramids are the defending champions of the Champions League, while RS Berkane won the CAF Confederations Cup last season. Power Dynamos are also returning to the competition for the first time since two seasons ago.

Rivers United will face all the teams in their group home and away. Then, they top two from each group with qualify for the quarter finals of the CAF Champions League.

Can Finidi George Lead Rivers United To CAF Champions League Glory?

Rivers United have had a decent start to the campaign, as they sit eighth with 16 points. With two games in hand, they sit five points behind leaders Abia Warriors.

But while Finidi George and his boys battle for the league title, they will be looking to do well on the continent.

Rivers have a really tough draw, but they can still dream of qualifying from the group. They would need to win their home games and hope to get one or two good results away from home.

The group stage of the CAF Champions League will begin on November 21.
