Flights Diverted As Fire Breaks Out At Lagos Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has relocated flight operations from Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos to the D Wing due to a fire outbreak.

The fire occurred at the E54 Passenger Air Bridge in the domestic wing of the airport at 5:29 AM on Thursday. According to a statement by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the fire was extinguished by the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) at 6:41 AM.

Initial investigations suggest an electrical unit sparked the fire, but a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.

“Efforts are ongoing to ventilate the smoke from the building,” Orah stated. “In the meantime, all flight operations in Terminal 1 have been diverted to the D Wing.”

FAAN will provide further updates as they become available.
