Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has underlined the need of setting up state police. Jonathan stated that he worked in the customs for two years before to enrolling in the university in a video that Channels TV posted on YouTube….READ FULL ARTICLE

He claimed that the training they had at the time was insufficient to deal with criminal groups in a practical manner.

He said despite carrying weapons, immigration and customs officers lack the training to effectively combat criminal activities along the borders. He said integrating state police forces with the responsibility of border control could enhance security, especially in riverine and boundary areas.

He proposed that state police could function as coast guards in riverine regions like Niger Delta and serve as national border forces in boundary areas.

In Jonathan’s words:
