Gov. Makinde Vows to Stay for Two Weeks After Clash with Wike Faction

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that he is ready to give all it takes to ensure the survival of democracy in Nigeria.

This is as he vowed that he and his faction would not vacate the premises of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Headquarters in Abuja because their stand is in defence of democracy.

Governor Makinde made the submission while addressing newsmen following the clash between his faction and the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Naija News recalls that both factions had fixed meetings for the same date and venue, leading to confrontations between them and Police officers deployed to the scene.

Following the tension at the headquarters of the PDP in Abuja over attempts to hold parallel meetings, the Police fired tear gas as the crisis escalated.

However, Makinde said they are not just fighting for the PDP, but for the survival of democracy in Nigeria, and the crisis rocking the PDP might get worse before it gets better, but they won’t give up.

“First and foremost, it’s a message of hope, real hope that I want to give to our members all across the nation and Nigerians. This fight is not about PDP; it is about the future of democracy in Nigeria. So for us, our people should know that this is a case of it may get worse before it will get better because we are on a solid ground and if we have to stay here for the next two weeks so that democracy will survive in Nigeria, you will see us here,” the Governor said.
