The executive director of Authority Newspaper, Chuks Akunna, has voiced doubts regarding the validity of the results of the election in Imo State. He has specifically called attention to the large number of ballots cast in spite of the stated lack of security. He mockingly said that Governor Hope Uzodinma’s election performance was so remarkable that it could be deemed “magical” and suggested that Uzodinma be added to the Guinness Book of Records as a candidate with remarkable and seemingly impossible accomplishments in Nigerian politics.
Speaking in an interview with AIT, Akunna expressed doubt about the legitimacy of the election outcomes and raised questions about the transparency of the electoral process.
According to him, “Votes should count. The moment people realised that votes count…look at the issue I read in Imo State. Imo state, with all the insecurity in Imo State, Imo State recorded nearly as many votes as they did in 2019. I mean, who is fooling who? These are the issues. 27; not even Mbakwe, the mercurial governor of Imo State, won as many local government areas as Hope. I mean, Gov. Hope Uzodinma ought to enter the Gunness Book of Records as a magical candidate of Nigeria.”
