“Governance Is Serious Business, Not A Dance” — Omisore Declares 2026 Osun Governorship Ambition

Former Deputy Governor of Osun State and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC),
Senator Iyiola Omisore, has officially declared his intention to run for governor in the August 8, 2026 election, vowing to bring focused leadership and structural transformation to the state.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Osogbo, shortly after making his declaration at a gathering of party faithful, Omisore said his bid is driven by a mission to reposition Osun through strategic governance in key areas such as education, agriculture, and the economy.

“Government is not a dancing matter, but a serious business that must be taken seriously by serious people,” Omisore stated, in a subtle jab at what he sees as the trivialization of leadership.

Confident in his popularity within the APC, the former deputy governor boasted that if the party were to hold its primary election today, he would command a significant majority of the votes.

“APC’s chance in 2026 is 100 per cent, and I am optimistic that if we should go to the primaries today, I will win by 90 per cent.

And by God’s grace, I will emerge victorious and deliver the state for APC,” he said.

Omisore described the large turnout of supporters at the event as a clear message of grassroots endorsement from committed APC members across the state.

“The large crowd is to show the strength of the rescue mission—to ensure that we get the party’s ticket by God’s grace and win the governorship election,” he added.

Also speaking, Ajibola Famurewa, Director-General of the Omisore Campaign Organization, described his principal as the most seasoned aspirant in the race, given his previous experience in governance.

“Governance is a serious business, and as a former deputy governor, he is the most experienced among other good aspirants of the party to fly the ticket and deliver victory come next year,” Famurewa said.

He noted that the supporters present at the declaration event were drawn from all wards across Osun State, representing the voice of genuine party stakeholders.

“These are the people that asked Omisore to come out and vie for the ticket of the party. We are sure that with their support, Omisore will emerge as the party’s candidate,” he added.

The APC governorship primary in Osun State is scheduled for December 15, 2025.
