Governor Fubara Visits Site of Devastating Fire, Promises Compensation

In the wake of a catastrophic fire that claimed lives and over a hundred vehicles on the Eleme stretch of the East-West Road, according to report from The Nation. Governor Siminalayi Fubara made a solemn visit to the site. The disaster, which occurred around 7:30 pm, was reportedly triggered by a tanker transporting petroleum motor spirit (PMS).

Accompanied by CP Olatunji Disu, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, and the Director of State Security Service, Governor Fubara expressed his commitment to aiding those affected. “We are here to see for ourselves to get a firsthand report of the incident that happened yesterday about 7:30pm that was caused by a tanker conveying PMS,” he stated.

Upon receiving the news from the MD of Indorama, Governor Fubara promptly notified the security agencies to intervene. The morning after revealed a grim scene, with extensive vehicle damage and tragic loss of life. “From what I am seeing a huge number of vehicles was destroyed, Souls lost,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive report from security agencies to assess the full extent of the tragedy.

The Governor underscored the importance of cautious driving on this notorious stretch of road and speculated that the incident might have been preventable with proper motorist behavior. Despite the irreversible damage, he assured that efforts would be made to mitigate the impact: “We will see how much we can control it.”
