Governor Kefas Reaffirms Commitment to Army’s 10 Division in Taraba

The Taraba state governor, Agbu Kefas, has pledged his administration’s full support for the successful establishment and operationalisation of the Nigerian Army’s newly created 10 Division in the state.

Kefas made the commitment on Friday while receiving members of the Nigerian Army Order of Battle (ORBAT) 2023 Review Committee during a courtesy visit at the T.Y. Danjuma House in Abuja.

The governor said the state government would provide suitable land and other necessary support for the construction of military facilities required for the division’s take-off.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the Nigerian Army in tackling insecurity and maintaining peace across Taraba.

Kefas thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for approving the establishment of the division, describing the decision as “timely and strategic.”

According to him, the new formation will strengthen security operations in Taraba and neighbouring states, given the state’s strategic location and security challenges.

He noted that Taraba shares boundaries with Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa states, as well as an extensive international border with the Republic of Cameroon.

The governor identified Kurmi, Takum, Gashaka and Sardauna local government areas as critical border communities that required sustained military presence to combat cross-border crimes, arms trafficking, illegal migration and other emerging security threats.

Earlier, the leader of the ORBAT 2023 Review Committee, Maj.-Gen. Ugiagbe, conveyed the goodwill of the Chief of Army Staff and commended the state government for its continued support to the Nigerian Army.

He said the committee’s visit was part of efforts to engage key stakeholders on the implementation of the ORBAT 2023 Review, particularly the operationalisation of the newly established 10 Division with headquarters in Jalingo.

According to him, the creation of the division was a major step in the Nigerian Army’s restructuring aimed at improving command and control, enhancing operational response, strengthening border security and addressing emerging security threats.
