Group C, CAF WCQ Table following Zimbabwe’s 1-1 draw with Nigeria

In their second match of the CAF World Cup Qualifiers group stage, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw. Today, Jose Peseiro’s team was only able to salvage a point after failing to defeat Zimbabwe.

Following back-to-back draws in their opening two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, Nigeria is now ranked second in Group C with two points.

The home side took the lead in the 25th minutes through Walter Musona. Francis Uzoho who was in goal failed to keep out Musona’s long range strike from a freekick delivery and Zimbabwe lead 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Super Eagles pushed for an equalizer and few minutes after Kelechi Iheanacho who was brought in to replace Nathan Tella in the 46th minutes, levelled the scores for the away side.

The Leicester City star fired into the bottom corner after receiving a pass from Moses Simon in the box.
