Group cautions PDP against fielding unstable, corrupt candidate in Ondo Guber primary….READ FULL ARTICLE
The leadership of the Ilaje Youth Congress (IYC) has warned the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) not to jeopardize its chances of winning the 2024 Governorship election in Ondo State by fielding a candidate that is unstable and corrupt in the coming primary election of the party.
According to the President of the IYC group, Comrade Gbenga Ayenuro, while addressing the congress at Igbokoda, Ilaje LGA headquarters, this warning is imperative to make the party reflect deeply on the choice of their flag bearer. As a group, we have the records of the aspirants in the party who are from our area. We know their capacity, what they represent and what they can offer.
“Our state has experienced too much misgovernance over the last few years in the hands of the ruling party. No industry is working in the state. Our communities in the coastal region have been taken over by sea incursion and nothing is being done”.
Our people have not forgotten the contributions of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) to the developmental strides of Ondo state and Ilaje nation right from the days of Dr. Olusegun Agagu and Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and we also know about the decline happening currently under the ruling party, APC.
Comrade Ayenuro said, ‘We noticed some old and recalcitrant politicians who cannot point at a single developmental project they have brought to our people are jostling for your governorship ticket, please don’t make such a huge mistake by giving your ticket to any of them. Or what’s the essence of a candidate who cannot say what he had offered the people in the past when given opportunity to serve?
“The PDP would be ridiculed if they fail to do the needful. Pick someone who is with the right spirit of loyalty and commitment to your party and who understands the needs of the good people of Ondo state. Someone who can boldly confront the ruling party, give an account of his stewardship and the people would be happy to work with”.
He therefore urged the delegates and the leaders of the party to put the interest of the masses first before their aspirations and choose wisely.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Secretary of the association, Mr. Ayo Peter, emphasized that the Ilaje Youth Congress(IYC) has no affiliation whatsoever with any political party other than the interest of the masses. We know our people have suffered a lot and we need someone who can turn around the situation. If we can’t find it in the ruling party, then we have to call on the opposition party to do the right thing.
He said, we are waiting for the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) to give us a credible candidate that the good people of Ondo state can embrace and not those without good names outside and amid their people.
