Gumi Slams Trump: Lies on Christian Genocide Reveal Rising Hate Among Citizens
Controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, has said that United States President, Donald Trump’s claim of a Christian massacre in Nigeria has exposed citizens he described as unpatriotic and hateful.
Naija News understands that Trump recently designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over alleged persecution of Christians and even threatened military action to eliminate terrorists accused of carrying out the killings.
The claim has sharply divided Nigerians, with some supporting the allegation while others insist that the nation’s security challenges do not target any particular religion.
Gumi had earlier dismissed the claim, urging Trump, who previously called Nigeria “a disgraceful country”, to withdraw his comments.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the cleric said Trump’s comments had revealed those who do not wish Nigeria well.
According to him, “Trump’s lies about ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria have exposed unpatriotic, hateful citizens who wish no good for the nation. We can’t be deceived anymore.”
In a related development, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has dismissed the designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) by Trump, describing the move as an attempt to inflame religious tensions and destabilise the country.
The Council made its position known on Sunday in Abuja, insisting that claims of “Christian genocide” in Nigeria were false, politically motivated, and rooted in foreign propaganda.
Speaking at a media briefing, the National Secretary of the Council, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stressed that both Muslims and Christians suffer from the same security challenges fuelled by terrorism, criminality, inequality, and climate-driven resource conflicts.
Oloyede stated, “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria. Both Muslims and Christians are victims of terrorists and criminal gangs. These attackers do not represent Islam. They kill Muslims, destroy mosques, and target everyone.”
