Binkola’s announcement that he would be bestowed with the title on May 5, 2024, sparked immediate backlash from the Benin Traditional Council and indigenes who deemed it a violation of the kingdom’s hallowed traditions.

Recognizing the gravity of his actions, Binkola has now tendered an apology to the Oba. In a widely circulated video, he kneels before the monarch, pleading for pardon.
