I didn’t know anything about education sector when I was appointed Minister – Mallam Adamu

Nigeria Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, in a report on Daily Trust, has recently mentioned that he did not have deep knowledge of the Education sector when President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as Minister in 2015. According to him, he had to seek the help of other people who understand the sector to get the work done.

According to the report, Mallam Adamu Adamu mentioned this at a valedictory session with officials and heads of parastatals of the Ministry on Thursday, 25th of May 2023.

The Nigerian Minister who expressed his appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve under him as a Minister, revealed that he had no clue that the Nigerian President was going to appoint him as a Minister. He added that he was not prepared for the duty as of the time his appointment came.

He said that he was still busy recommending competent people to the Nigerian President when he found out that his name was included among those appointed as ministers.

In his words, he said: “I didn’t know anything about education sector when I was appointed Minister except superficially. But when Buhari decided to make me Minister of education, I called some people to assist me work on policy document on education because I was novice in the sector. I shared my idea with them and they assisted me greatly, and I remain grateful to them for these years.”

I was busy making recommendations and suggestions to the President on who to appoint into his cabinet in 2015. All of a sudden, he announced my name to my surprise and that was it. We worked together till 2019.”
