“I Don’t Like What The Referee Did” — Erik Ten Hag

Chelsea vs. Manchester United may have been the game but United boss, Erik ten Hag doesn’t like what the referee did to take the points away from his team.

Chelsea versus Manchester United had everything in it to live up to the hype, and for sure, nothing was left on the pitch by both sides aside United manager, Erik ten Hag ruing the 8-added minutes that led to an eventual Chelsea victory.

The Red Devils came into the match with a looking to make a statement after an underwhelming 1-1 draw last weekend to Brentford. And despite going 2-0 down to their hosts within the first 19-minutes of play, Manchester United master minded a comeback to level the tide before the half time whistle.

The battle was headed the way of the Old Trafford team at Stamford Bridge when Alejandro Garnacho looked to have scored what was the winner in the 67th minute of the game. However, another story awaited the Red Devils in the 90th minute when the on pitch official awarded an added 8-minutes play to both teams that eventually led the Blues stealing all 3-points thanks to a late drama that unfolded in the final 2-minutes of the tie.

From going a goal up, Manchester United conceded two late goals in the 10th and 11th minutes of added time, a move Erik ten Hag post match was all too critical of.

According to the Dutch tactician, there was no reason for the on-pitch officials to take the game out of Manchester United’s hands by giving what he believed was an unwarranted 8-added minutes that was stretched into 11-plus added minutes.

Reacting to the decision, Erik ten Hag said in his post-match interview;

“I don’t know where they got the eight minutes. I don’t know where they came from. But in the last minutes of the game, we as a team have to manage the game better.”
