Mr. Ibrahim Magu, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), asserted that the pervasive and elusive character of corruption in many sectors of the Nigerian economy makes it difficult to successfully resist.
Magu reportedly said these things over the weekend when he accepted an honorary doctorate from the African University of Science and Technology in Abuja’s Institute for Governance and Leadership Studies in Africa (IGLSA). This information was reported by The Nation.
While he was talking on the challenges, Ibrahim Magu called for unity among all Nigerians in the fight against corruption, emphasized on the need for collective efforts to elevate the country to a higher level of development.
He said, “With the benefit of hindsight and having been at the helm of affairs of the foremost anti-graft agency in Nigeria, I wish to state that fighting corruption is not an easy task.
It is a patriotic and selfless service to one’s fatherland. This is because corruption is pervasive, and for an agency to tackle this monster headlong, all hands must be on deck.”
Further talking, he said, “I wish to state with a high sense of responsibility that the fight against corruption must be pursued with vigour as corruption remains the impediment against our collective progress as a nation.”
