INEC meddlesome interloper in Bola Tinubu’s defense of my appeal – Atiku tells court

the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the last election, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, on Friday said to the Presidential Election Petition Court that the Independent National Electoral Commission is a meddlesome interloper in its defense of Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the qualifications for the poll.

The report has it that Atiku particularly condemned the electoral body of being a busy body and fishing in someone else’s troubled water.

In the report, INEC, through its counsel, Mr. Kemi Pinhero SAN, at Friday’s proceedings, had moved a motion on notice praying the tribunal to cross out some of the allegations against Tinubu by Atiku in his appeal.

The report claims that the electoral body begged the court to cross out thirty-two accusations against Tinubu by Atiku in the petition questioning his former’s proclamation as the winner of the 25th of February Presidential election.

DAILY POST report adds that INEC announced that the allegations, which formed thirty-two paragraphs in Atiku’s appeal, should be disconcerted by the court for several reasons encompassing lack of jurisdiction but Atiku, through his lead counsel, Chief Chris Uche SAN, filed a counter affidavit in opposition to INEC’s petition and asked the court to reject the electoral body’s position.

The report further adds that Uche insisted in the counter affidavit that it was not the responsibility of INEC to do the fighting or argue the suit of Tinubu, who is the 2nd respondent in the petition.
