Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic scholar, has finally broken his silence over the raid on the house of his associate, Malam Tukur Mamu by operatives of the Department State Service, DSS.
It was reported earlier that Mamu was apprehended and detained by the Nigerian authorities during the week.
He was deported to Nigeria after being held at the Cairo International Airport for twenty- four hours while he was en route to Saudi Arabia for hajj.
Mamu, the publisher of the Desert Herald newspaper in Kaduna, was able to secure the release of several victims of the attack on the Kaduna Train that took place on March 28, 2022.
However, Sheik Gumi has lamented that the security personnel who carried out the raids were no different from bandits in the sense that both groups enter people’ s houses armed with firearms without the jurisdiction of the law.
The statement was released during a sermon that Gumi delivered in Kaduna on Thursday evening, he stated that Mamu was innocent of the allegations that the DSS had brought against him.
He added that Mamu’ s only offense was that he assisted the families of the hostages in negotiating the release of their loved ones.
He said, ” This our brother that is being tested by Allah, there is no cause for alarm by Allah’ s grace. We should see his travail as a test from Allah. Sometimes Allah tests you so that he can uplift you or lessen your sins. So, what happened to him is nothing to worry about. After all, he is used to it.
