Jesus, Partey – Arsenal injury news and return dates ahead of Sheffield United clash

Arsenal have some huge injury concerns before their clash with Sheffield United on Saturday, with updates on the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey

Arsenal are back in Premier League action this weekend as they prepare to take on Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. The Gunners are still unbeaten in the division with six wins and three draws to their name so far, keeping them firmly in the title hunt.

Mikel Arteta looks set to play out the match without at least three key stars in his squad though, following brand new injury concerns. Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber are all likely to miss the match with the Blades, with the manager giving an update in his pre-match press conference.

With that said, here’s a look at the latest Arsenal injury concerns ahead of the next big match this weekend.

Gabriel Jesus was excellent against Sevilla on Tuesday night, netting a goal and providing an assist but there was an injury worry when he pulled up clutching his hamstring late on in the game. Eventually, he limped off for Eddie Nketiah with ten minutes remaining on the night. It remains to be seen how serious the issue is.

Jesus was sent for a scan on his hamstring on Thursday and Arteta confirmed there would be an absence for the forward in the coming weeks.

Injury: Hamstring

What Arteta has said: “The scans show that there is a muscle injury. We might miss him for a few weeks again… With Gabi I cannot give you any time frame because he always surprises us. He felt something there, it was a really awkward action. It’s true that he had quite a lot of load in those games playing with the national team and with us which he hasn’t done in a long, long time. That’s really bad news for us.”

Thomas Partey
football.london understands that Partey sustained a thigh injury in training on Monday. A club statement read: “Thomas Partey misses out on tonight’s game with a muscle issue.” It was later confirmed by Arteta that the midfielder would miss a few weeks with his problem.

What Arteta has said: “He’s got a muscle injury and we expect him to be out for a few weeks. We don’t know the extent of it still, he has more tests today. He got that injury in training, with the last kick of the ball. Very unfortunate.”

Jurrien Timber
football.london understands that the Dutch international underwent successful surgery and is now in the ‘recovery phase’ of his rehabilitation. He was in attendance for the game against Man United earlier this season.

football.london spoke to Timber post-match where the 22-year-old was still using the aid of two crutches to move about. Asked how he was feeling with his recovery, a swift, ‘good, good’ was the response. He will be sorely missed, especially with the club failing to find a suitable replacement in the summer transfer window.
