Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday, swore in four new senators elected in the June 20 senatorial bye-elections.
The new lawmakers who emerged victorious at the polls, were sworn in during the day’s plenary.
Naija News reports that the newly sworn-in lawmakers include three for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
They are: Dayo Faduyile (APC, Ondo South)
Envulu Anza (APC, Nasarawa North)
Ikeje Asogwu (APC, Enugu North)
Olaka Nwogu (PDP, Rivers South East)
Senator Faduyile replaced Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who was appointed as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
But Senators Asogwa, Nwogu and Danladi Envulu-Anza replaced the former occupants of their respective seats who died at various times during the year.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Edo North in the Senate, Adams Oshiomhole, has clarified his comments regarding the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Naija News reports that the lawmaker made the clarification in a statement on Tuesday.
He asserted that comments during an interview on AIT’s Politics Today programme on Monday were misrepresented, insisting that he never claimed any senator’s signature was forged.
The former Edo State governor said his position was consistent with that of the Senate spokesman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, that no senator’s signature was forged because no lawmaker had complained to him about such.
He, however, explained that the only issue he raised was that a senator who served on the committee had claimed that attendance signatures of some lawmakers were attached to the final report.
