Officers of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LSNC) have arrested two staff members of Ikeja Electric for allegedly stealing electrical cables in the Ogba area of Lagos.
The suspects, Oluwadamilola Wasiu (30) and Adekunle Faruk (24), are reported to be officials of the Debt Management Control Unit under Ikeja Electric.
They were apprehended late at night while cutting electrical cables from a transformer serving Lawson Street in Ogba, within the Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
A third accomplice, identified as Ibrahim, reportedly fled with their tools and other stolen items.
This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Wale Ajetunmobi, on Tuesday.
“Officers of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LSNC) have arrested two Ikeja Electric staff for stealing electrical cables in the Ogba area of Lagos.
“The suspects, Oluwadamilola Wasiu, 30, and Adekunle Faruk, 24, were said to be officials of the Debt Management Control unit under Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company,” Ajetunmobi said in a post on X.
According to LSNC in a statement, “Vigilant residents of Lawanson Community in Ojodu aided officers of the Ojodu Command of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps to apprehend 2 cable vandals.
“The 2 cable vandals who were identified as officials of the Debt Management Control unit under Ikeja Electricity Distribution company were caught by residents of Lawson Community at about 13:06hrs on 24th March(today), 2025, while the 3rd suspect, Ibrahim was reported to have escaped with their tools and other suspected stolen items.
“The suspects were caught in the act while cutting electric cables inside the transformer attached to Lawson Street, Oke-Ira, Ogba of Ojodu LCDA.”
The arrested suspects have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the development, LSNC General Manager Ifalade Oyekan commended members of the Lawson community for their vigilance. He also praised them for not taking the law into their own hands.
Oyekan reassured residents that LSNC remains committed to working closely with communities to enhance security and support Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s agenda for a safer Lagos.
