Legislators Address Senate Leadership in Response to Rumors of Akpabio’s Impeachment

Following the recent impeachment rumours surrounding Senate President Godswill Akpabio, lawmakers in the Nigerian Senate have passed a vote of confidence in his leadership and that of the entire 10th Senate.

Recall that on Wednesday, social media platforms were awash with false reports claiming that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) had taken over the National Assembly to prevent Akpabio’s impeachment. The rumours alleged that the Senate President was facing removal due to unspecified reasons.

Akpabio swiftly debunked the rumours during Wednesday’s plenary session, labelling them as “fake news.”

Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, also issued a statement dismissing the claims as “unacceptable and unspeakable.”

Meanwhile, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Sen. Basheer Lado, reassured the public of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fostering a harmonious working relationship between the legislature and the executive.
