LP’s Achonu denies alleged schemes to compile results at Council headquarters, Nov. 11

The Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor of Imo State, Senator Anthan Achonu, is adamant that results should be collated at locations designated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rather than at local government headquarters. The election is scheduled for November 11. He has promised to stop this through the legal system.

As per Vanguard news, Senator Athan Achonu made these statements during a briefing with the press on Saturday. He expressed concern that agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been collecting voters’ card information in certain local government councils in Imo State, including Owerri West, Oguta, Ihitte Uboma, Okigwe, and others, in an apparent attempt to manipulate the forthcoming election.

Senator Achonu emphasized that there are reports and allegations of the APC attempting to influence INEC’s Polling Officers and Ad Hoc Staff. He called on INEC and security agencies to be vigilant and prevent any efforts to rig the election, ensuring that sensitive materials remain secure.

He also stated his commitment to using all lawful means to oppose any attempt to collate results in locations other than officially designated ones at the ward and local government levels. Senator Achonu called on security agencies to maintain order on Election Day and act impartially.
