Many Nigerians make mistakes in UK by writing their surnames first on documents, says lawyer

It has been revealed that many Nigerians living in the United Kingdom are making a lot of mistakes on official documents by writing their surnames first and are having problems in getting some things done over there.

In many instances here in Nigeria, many people always write their surnames first when given documents to fill, just as some of the papers themselves always indicate that people should first write the surnames.

But this seems not to be the case in the United Kingdom as a Nigerian lawyer based in London on Tuesday revealed that many citizens of Nigeria living in the kingdom are having problems because they write their surnames first in official documents.

The lawyer, Dele Olawanle, with the Twitter handle @dolawanle, disclosed this in a tweet where he said using one’s surnames first instead of one’s first name in documents over there is a mistake Nigerians should always avoid, adding that such surnames should come last.

He added that apart from this, it is not acceptable over there to mention one’s surnames first in telephone conversation but the first name should be used, adding that he expected Nigerians who have spent six months and above in UK not to make such a mistake again.
