MD, Top EKEDC Executives Removed

Following a directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Tinuade Sanda, the Managing Director of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), along with other executives and staff members seconded from West Power Gas (WPG) Limited (WPG) to the Disco, have been relieved of their appointments. WPG is the parent company of EKEDC.

Sanda’s removal aligns with NERC’s directive, which mandated EKEDC to ensure that staff members working for the utility are employed by the Disco and are subject to the service conditions applicable to the utility’s employees, being paid through the utility’s payroll.

In a letter titled “Implementation of NERC directive on seconded staff” dated March 21, this year, and signed by the Chairman of EKEDC, Dere Otubu, the announcement of Sanda’s removal was made. The letter stated, “In compliance with the above directive, all seconded staff of WPG are being released by EKEDC and returned to WPG Ltd. You are hereby relieved of your role, office, and position at EKEDC, effective immediately, and returned to your employer, WPG Ltd.”

The letter also expressed appreciation for the valuable services and contributions made by Sanda and other seconded staff from WPG to the growth and success of EKEDC over the years.

NERC’s directive came in response to a petition received earlier from a staff member of the utility, prompting the Commission to instruct the Disco to withdraw all existing WPG secondees involved in revenue loss back to WPG.

In compliance with NERC’s directive, EKEDC announced the appointment of Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh as its Acting CEO. Momoh, with over 31 years of experience in the power sector, is a seasoned marketing professional holding an MBA from Lagos State University. She is a fellow of several professional bodies and has undergone numerous leadership and management training programs.

“We have great confidence in her ability to perform this role effectively and take the company to greater heights,” the statement signed by the Board of EKEDC affirmed.
