Following the sharing of the 1989 statement made by the late Hon. Justice Chukwudifu Oputa by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, social media users had a variety of reactions.
The declaration was posted by Livy Uzoukwu on his official X account.
Justice Chukwudifu Oputa claimed that the Supreme Court had the authority to overrule itself in a post that he uploaded on his page.
He quoted Justice Chukwudifu Oputa as saying that;
“This court (Supreme Court) has the power to overrule itself (and has done so in the past), for it gladly accepts that it is far better to admit an error than to persevere in error”.
However, after Livy Uzoukwu, SAN made the post on his page, there were several reactions from social media users.
