My Ancestors Are Strongly Behind Me – Rhodes-Vivour

The Lagos State governorship candidate flying the banner of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour expressed his strong confidence in winning the March 18, Lagos gubernatorial election.

Rhodes-Vivour in an interview with Vanguard news correspondent Damilola Ogunsakin during the show ‘Politics Hub’ explained that he is a deeply rooted Lagosian and that his ancestors who are part of the state’s early residence are strongly behind him.

Also, the Rhodes-Vivour said he is not scared of intimidation from any corner because no one can run him out of his village.

“This is my village. We are not scared. We are not intimidated. We are the free-born son of Lagos. I have no other village. Nobody is going to run me out of that one.”

Rhodes Vivour also took out time to highlight the challenges currently facing the state. He mentioned that the past leadership of Lagos is corrupt, and lacks transparency and accountability.

“The effect of it is traffic and infrastructure deficit, that is you’re spending the money that you could have got you two bridges, you are only getting one bridge. You are taking 1.2 billion dollars to do a blue line and you’re and you’re taking 14 years to do only 13 kilometers when you can take that money to do 27 kilometers.”

Rhodes-Vivour however promised that one of the first things will do when he gets the mantel of power is to open up the government and its accounts to the public domain for people to engage with.

“The plan is to publish the accounts of the state and carry people along in the decision-making of the government so that we can build trust in them. Lagos state prides itself on the revenues it generates, it does not generate these revenues from angels or spirits, it generates them from the people that work in Lagos. Whether you’re a Lagosian, Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa, you’re a member of the Commonwealth of Lagos and you deserve a government that is accountable to you.”
