N20 million worth of illegal gasoline is seized by customs amid rising fuel prices.

With the recent increase in fuel pump prices by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it has seized N20 million worth of petrol.

According to the NCS, the petroleum product was confiscated by NCS’ Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone D in Bauchi.

Comptroller Aliyu Abubakar of FOU Zone D during a press briefing on Wednesday, October 9, said that the service operatives seized 628 jerry cans of petrol and 78 pieces of donkey skin smuggled within the period of four weeks.

Abubakar said that operatives of the NCS intercepted 628 jerry cans and 4 drums of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

This made up to 16,635 litres of petrol moved by msyggkers who were accounted in Bauchi.

He also added that the total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of all seized goods is estimated at N20,330,225.

The comptroller further urged Nigerians to remain patriotic and support the NCS by provide credible information that could help the service fight smuggling and smugglers.
