Nigerian Lady Shocked as ₦1.2 Million OPay Loan Allegedly Skyrockets to Over ₦9.6 Million

A Nigerian lady has gone viral on X after revealing that a ₦1.2 million loan she obtained from OPay allegedly increased to more than ₦9.6 million, sparking widespread reactions on social media.

The X user, identified as @iam_Mardiyah, explained that she took the loan shortly after gaining admission into the university. According to her, she used the money to buy a new phone, bags and wigs but later deleted the OPay app as the interest on the loan continued to accumulate.

After reinstalling the app, she said she was shocked by the outstanding balance displayed on her account. Sharing a screenshot of the loan details, she claimed the loan was taken on November 13, 2024.

“I borrowed 1.2M from OPay to change my phone and get some wigs in 100 level and I deleted the app when the interest was piling up too much and they kept disturbing me to pay back, I installed the app back now and y’all won’t believe how much my loan has become.”

Her post has since attracted over 2 million views, with many social media users sharing their opinions on borrowing money for personal expenses and the consequences of unpaid loans.
