Newly sworn-in Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government’s renewed security strategies will deliver tangible results in the shortest possible time.
Naija News reports that Musa gave the assurance on Thursday shortly after taking the oath of office administered by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Addressing journalists after the ceremony, the minister said his immediate focus is to overhaul the nation’s defence structure and foster stronger collaboration among all security agencies.
“My immediate priority is to make sure that defence takes its place fully in the country,” Musa stated.
He emphasised the need for synergy within the military and with other security outfits, noting that “security is everybody’s responsibility.”
General Musa expressed optimism that better coordination and cooperation would fast-track the resolution of security challenges facing the country.
“It is that synergy that we need to build on and work on, and that’s what we are going to do. I can assure you, within the shortest possible time, Nigerians will see results,” he said.
Appreciating the support he has received, he added, “Nigerians have shown me love, and I will guarantee them that I am going to work, whatever it takes, to ensure that Nigeria is secured.”
When asked about President Tinubu’s directive to him, the Defence Minister said the President clearly demanded that national security be restored without delay.
He said, “Yes, I just met Mr President, and he reiterated his mind on the aspect that we must make sure that Nigeria is secured.
“Nigerians should go back and sleep with their eyes closed; go back to their farms; schools open without being molested. Everyone being carried together to make sure that Nigeria continues to grow in line with the renewed programme of Mr President.”
