Nottingham Forest Appoints Sean Dyche as New Manager After Postecoglou’s Departure
Sean Dyche Named New Nottingham Forest Manager Following Postecoglou Exit

Nottingham Forest have turned to Sean Dyche in a bid to rescue their faltering Premier League campaign, appointing the former Everton and Burnley boss as their third manager this season.
The 54-year-old Englishman replaces Ange Postecoglou, whose turbulent 40-day reign ended after a 3–0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday. Dyche’s arrival follows the earlier sacking of Nuno Espírito Santo, who had guided the club back into Europe with a seventh-place finish last term.
Dyche, who signed a contract running until 2027, will take charge of the side for the first time on Thursday, when Forest host FC Porto in the Europa League.
A former Forest youth player, Dyche returns to the City Ground with the task of stabilising a team sitting 18th in the Premier League, having taken just five points from eight matches.
He has been out of work since his dismissal by Everton in January, following a two-year spell at Goodison Park.
Forest, who also considered Fulham’s Marco Silva and former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini, opted for Dyche’s experience and reputation for discipline and defensive solidity.
Announcing the appointment, Forest said Dyche’s leadership qualities and tactical know-how made him the ideal choice to guide the club through “its next chapter.”
“Dyche brings the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement to guide the club through its next chapter,” the club said in a statement.
“Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organisation, resilience, and strength from set pieces, qualities that align closely with the current squad’s attributes and the club’s footballing identity.”
The statement added that Dyche’s connection to the city and his familiarity with the club’s culture would be vital in winning over supporters.
“As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters,” the club said.
Dyche will be joined by Ian Woan and Steve Stone, both former Forest players who previously worked with him at Burnley and Everton.
The pair are expected to play key roles in reconnecting the team with its fanbase and instilling the resilience that characterised Dyche’s most successful sides.
Forest’s decision to appoint a third manager in less than three months reflects a turbulent start to the 2025–26 season.
The club’s European return under Nuno Espírito Santo had raised expectations, but inconsistency and off-field upheaval have left them battling for form both domestically and in Europe.
Dyche’s appointment signals a return to basics, a focus on structure, grit, and collective discipline, qualities the club’s hierarchy hopes will steer Forest away from the relegation zone and back to stability.
