Obasanjo Absent as CJN Swears In Tinubu and Shettima as President and Vice President of Nigeria

According to The Guardian, The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, conducted the swearing-in ceremony of Bola Tinubu as the President of Nigeria and Kashim Shettima as the Vice President.

The event took place at Eagle’s Square in Abuja, witnessed by notable figures including former presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Good luck Jonathan. However, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who supported the Labour Party candidate Peter Obi during the election, was not present.

Also in attendance were the wives of Tinubu, Shettima, and Buhari—Remi Tinubu, Nana Shettima, and Aisha Buhari, respectively. African leaders such as the Prime Minister of Gabon, Billy By-Nze, the President of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo, and Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame graced the historic occasion.

Prominent individuals from various sectors were present, including the President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, business moguls Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Jim Ovia. The event also attracted service chiefs, heads of security agencies, governors, former governors, ministers, and influential members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu emerged victorious in the election, garnering 8,794,726 votes. His closest contender, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), received 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party secured 6,101,533 votes, placing third. The candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, obtained 1,496,687 votes.

However, Atiku, PDP, Obi, and the Labour Party have filed a legal challenge against Tinubu’s victory.
