Ondo 2024: ZLP Nominates Abass Mimiko As Governorship Candidate

On Wednesday, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) announced the nomination of Abass Mimiko as its candidate for the upcoming November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo State. Mimiko, a medical doctor turned politician, emerged through an affirmation process held at the party’s secretariat in Akure, the state capital.

Speaking to party members after his selection, Mimiko outlined his priorities for the state, which include education, health, economy, and security. He pledged to focus on ensuring food security, affordable quality education, industrialization, housing, and free health services for all residents.

Regarding his brother, former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, who is a member of a different political party, Abass stated that he had received his full support. “He said that if I become governor, everyone will benefit,” Abass said.

Meanwhile, Cornelius Akintoye was elected as the new state chairman of the ZLP at a party congress held earlier. National Secretary Yahaya Wakama emphasized the party’s determination to defeat the ruling party and urged members to work diligently towards this goal.

“The harassment and economic strangulation are some of the weapons that the ruling party will wield,” Wakama warned. “But we cannot give up. We must resolve to snatch our state from the jaws of death.”

He stressed the need for unity and active participation from all members, as the party’s candidate would require their support to achieve the desired results. “No one can be a bystander. We must have all hands on deck,” Wakama concluded.
