Osimhen’s 25th goal of the season moves Napoli closer to Serie A title

Victor Osimhen scored two goals to help Napoli thrash fellow countryman, Ola Aina’s club, Torino 4-0 in a Serie A encounter at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on Sunday afternoon.

The win means Napoli temporarily go 21 points clear of second-placed Inter Milan, who will host Juventus later on Sunday.

Osimhen as usual opened the scoring as early as the ninth minute of the Italian top-flight game after powering in a header following a lovely corner kick from Piotr Zielinski.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia converted a penalty to put Napoli 2-0 ahead in the 35th minute while Nigerian international, Osimhen got the Partenopei’s third and his second of the game on 51 minutes.

His goal which is also his 21st Serie A strike of the 2022/23 campaign after 23 matches came from yet another header after being set up by a cross from Mathias Olivera.

Osimhen had a few more scoring opportunities to have struck a hat-trick but the Super Eagles attacker could not add to his brace before coming off for Giovanni Simeone in the 72nd minute.

The 24-year-old has become a symbol of the Partenopei’s Scudetto charge during the 2022/23 season, scoring 21 goals while he has netted 25 times in 29 appearances across all competitions.

Since joining Napoli in the summer transfer window of 2020 for a fee of €70m, he has scored a hugely impressive 53 goals and made 14 assists in only 91 appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile, in attack, Osimhen (25) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (22) are the only two Serie A players to have been involved in at least 20 goals this season.
